OK, so today I was made to feel like some primative being who just crawled out of cave. I drive a stick-shift 2004 Scion Xa. No frills, bells, or whistles. It's basic transportation at it's best, guaranteed to get you from point A to point B as safely and economically as modernly possible. And as far as I can see, this is all I need.
My (new) girlfriend, on the other hand, drives a BMW 328i. After a recent date (in which we drove her car), I suggested she take it to a mechanic and have them check for a bad bearing or bad tires. She took her car to a local BMW dealership and waited for me to pick her up. Upon arriving, I asked the service manager what the problem was. He informed me the car needed new tires. I asked him for the replacement cost. He smiled and said..."One thousand two-hundred eighty-six dollars ($1,286)!"
I said...."WHAT??? Supposedly these are some kind of "run flat" tires. Didn't know such an animal existed.
I called the place where I've gotten my tires for 12 years. Their cost? $923. Still expensive but at least $363 less. We got the tires at my place.
I was dumbfounded by this exhorbitant price. Even though my GF is not hurting monetarily, I think it's a God aweful waste to spend that kind of money on tires. Makes me really appreciate my cheap little car.
BTW, total replacement of my four tires this year??? $200!!! Priceless!!!

Well, first thing, a BMW dealer is not likely to give you the best price on tires, secondly, just because their service manager says she needs new tires does not mean that this is true, take a look at the tires, how much tread is left? I see you already bought tires, and bought the run-flats, OK I guess but, I am not at all certain you *have* to use run-flats. Take a look on Tire Rack's website, see what they have. Buy smarter next time.
Sadly, though, you seem to be an "appliance car" guy dating a "car guy" girl...she deserves better...upgrade yourself, learn something about higher-end cars...won't hurt you in any case.
Considering a car as just "A to B" is almost as bad in my book as looking at a bottle of wine as "just a way to get buzzed" or dare I say sex as "just a way to make a baby..."!
There is, IMHO, more to life than this, Grasshopper...

Ha Ha, but your post is ridiculous. I called bs as soon as I read that you could get four new tires for $200. Give me a break, my old Ford Escort with 13 inch tires go for way more than that. Your car is more than over double $200, unless you went to a used tire place.

agreed when you start looking at good set of sticky low profile Z-rated high performance tires for 17 and 18 inch rims it is alot diffrent than buying a set of generic all-seasons for a 14 inch rim and I kinda think run flats are a waste of money though...

Go to La Puente Tires located in ghetto/barrio La Puente California. They have two prices for their Chinese made tires; the one with a receipt and the one w/o a receipt. Without a receipt you can get 4 tires for just over $200. All I need to get from A to B.

Actually, earlier this year, I got a set of new 70,000 mile General Tires on my daughter's Focus for $240 after the $50 rebate (which, amazingly, they did send me). And that was the out the door price - tax included.

I have to disagree. I found a set of 15" Kuhmo tires from Tire Rack for less than that about a year ago (can't cost that much more now). Each tire cost me $46, and I think shipping was $38 for all 4. Shipping brought it over $200, but the price for the 4 tires was under the $200 mark . I could not find new tires locally at that price. I just order from Tire Rack and take them to get installed and balanced at a local tire shop for about $12/each (what they charge me).
It's possible the OP got them for that price. You have to learn how to shop around.

ROFLMAO!! . Funny analogies, but you have to understand some of us are car guys, while others aren't. But I love the analogies though, especially the cheap liquor.

One without a receipt? Even if those were take-offs ;you should get a receipt. Sounds like stolen goods to me.A receipt cost nohtng to make out and i would be very leary of buying anyhting without one;even if not stolen.

Out the door for my Escort with no rebates is $228, so I can believe what you are saying. However, the op's car has 15 inch wheels not 13 inch like my car. I believe a focus has 13 or 14's at the most too.
