Not to turn this into a Evo vs Vette fight...but....
I dont know why I put 376hp, I know it has 436 this year. Anyways, my point is, the Evo is a superior car in many aspects. Sure its down over 100 hp and is a full second slower to 60 and 100 mph, and had a 40 mph disadvantage in top speed, but who really goes that fast (unless youre stupid)? On an average road, the Evo wins. Stoplight to stoplight? Evo. Braking? Evo (157ft 70-0 vs 161 ft 70-0--Car and Driver). Roadholding? Evo (.96 G vs .95G Vette--Car and Driver). Ive also seen a episode of Best Motoring where a Vette and Viper were thrown up against some Evo and STi variants. The Viper held up pretty good for a few laps, but the Vette quickly faltered. At some points in the Vette's in-car camera, it was so far behind that you couldnt see the other 3 cars.
The March, 2007 Car & Driver test of a Corvette Z06 lists 70-0 mph braking in 153 feet. The roadholding for the 'Vette is .99 G.
What is the issue (month and year) of the 161 foot figure you posted?
And 12 second 1/4 mile times in a 6.0 L V8 is weak. There are daily driven Civics, yes Civics, that run in the 10s with 4 bangers. Race car Civics run 7s and 8s. Not bad for 4 cylinders!
You've got to be joking!
Show me a stock 12-second Honda Civic!
That 12-second Camaro I posted did not have (or need) a supercharger, turbocharger or nitrous oxide.
We both know that for a Civic to run in the 10s, it needs major (and expensive) modifications. What would they run without turbos and nitrous oxide?
I can put an engine in a garbage can and make it run 10s, but it's still a garbage can! And race car Civics weigh how much? Maybe 1,500 lbs?!?
The big V-8s also have a lot more low-end torque. For example, the torque rating of my '69 Cadillac is 525 lbs/ft @ 3000 rpm.
Even though it weighs 5,060 lbs, it can easily break the rear tire loose... I've done it even when rolling at 5 or 10 mph. And I've done it a few times from a dead stop without even opening the secondaries on the 4-bbl carburetor.
And the engine probably last about 10,000 miles before needing a rebuild.
Actually, the main factor that has made the MKIV Supra Turbo such a popular tuner car is that the stock engine with fairly simple upgrades and proper tuning can produce gobs of power pretty reliably; and with strengthened aftermarket internals, the stock block can handle even more gobs of power. Again, as long as there is proper tuning/management, that motor is insanely reliable.

I'd rather have a well-tuned Mopar 426-Hemi or 427 ZL1 Chevy.

No argument here, that was my argument to him. Hey, the man likes imports and spinning a car to 8,000 RPM to get his power.
I really don't understand the import craze myself. Turbos, nitrous, supercharges are great but anything you can bolt unto a 4 cylinder you can also bolt onto a 8 cylinder and make much more power. When will kids that are buying these civics learn that?

What's wrong with forced induction? There's plenty of muscled 8s using superchargers
