or anyone with flying experience???

Is it weird for a woman like myself to want to learn how to fly planes. I know that becoming a pilot isn't easy, one must have lots of flying experience. I'm just so curious to learn how, and have been wanting to learn for awhile, but I just don't tell anyone becuz they may think I"m wierd.

In my area, we have airshows around this time of year all the time, and I have always wanted to be in one someday lol

no I don't think it's weird at all you want to learn how to fly planes, that's kinda cool. of course aviation is a 'man's buisness' unless you want to be a pretty stewardess who serves drinks or sells airline tickets

you are going to have to put up with them making you uncomfortable and unwanted in their environment, just like they are notorious for doing to women in the military. If you can handle that I think you should take flying lessons.

I love flying. I used to fly a lot with my father. Mostly in a 2 engine Beechcraft but I've flown the smaller planes too.

But, it's phenomenally expensive. Even after you pay for all the hours and instructor time to get certified/licensed. Truly, it's a hobby for very wealthy people.

As far as jobs go or finding a way to support yourself with this skill, forget it. You will never be able to compete or get as many hours/experience as the ex-military pilots.

If you are young, join the Airforce and let them train you. You can translate that experience to civilian work in aviation.

There are female pilots at major airlines, I've flown with some of them. Female military pilots. Do what you want!

Well, I believe it is about money and access to a plane. I know a woman who is a pilot and her daughter is now a commercial pilot. The husband/father was a commercial pilot and they always had their own plane.
This is the issue. Air time is expensive, and flying hours are important.
Could you join the Air Force?

I have lots of input.

Start out by taking some private lessons. Then one thing will lead to another. If you decide you want to make a career out of it you will have a very good chance simply because you are a woman. The airlines are required to hire a certain amount of "minorities". Gotta love affirmative action!

Take the first step, you never know what can happen!! And don't listen to naysayers.
