Back in the early 80's I was paying as little as $1200 and the most expensive flight was $1700 and that was flying the cheapest fare for a flight from Omaha to Newark. Considering inflation those prices would be equivalent to $3000 to $5000 now.
For that price we got full meals on every flight. Most of my business trips would be 1-2 days and then the return trip so the meals on the planes was all the food I needed for the trip. If I have to fly commercial now I always fly first class and even first class now is not as good as the cattle car seating back then.
