As of 20:00 Russian news.
Russia closed any tourists air communication with Egypt.
All Russian tourists in Egypt right now will be returned home in expedite manner.
Between 65 and 75 000 people.
Government is developing evacuation plan as of right now.
This is done strictly as precaution measure.

No, pilot error still happens ( like in this case for example,)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_France_Flight_447

it happens, although very rare of course.
But in case with the Russian flight there are couple of things we are still missing - bomb fragments, residue from explosion -things like that.
When that's in place, then the picture will be full, but until then...

This should an eye opener for US citizens when the fly within the US (and numerous certain countries) to stop complaining how expensive their plane ticket is/was. Hope many understand now how much many security related items are done out of sight past what the see at TSA checkpoints.

Yes I flip-flop now
Whatcha gonna do about it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I need a stiff drink and shut up for awhile

Keep in mind that Bribery outside the US, is as common as jaywalking in the US. Want to fly safe? Fly on a name brand airline who screens all of its own employees.

How can "experts" tell the difference between the sound of a bomb exploding and, say, an engine exploding from just the black box that records cockpit audio? How many seconds after the explosion was heard did the recording go dead?

I think the medias' love for gruesome terrorist stories is being exploited by officials in various countries who have their own anti-tourist agenda.

Have we heard anything directly from the official team investigating the incident?

Per the state-run media in the US, do not trust Russia and Egypt. The tone and content of the whole article reads exactly like something one would read out of the old communist Soviet Union or China.

Quote:
The state media controlled by Messrs. Putin and Sissi have a nasty habit of blaming all disasters on the United States, no matter how far-fetched the theory required. So we won’t be surprised if Russians and Egyptians are told the CIA is somehow responsible for the tragedy in the Sinai.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opini...d0c_story.html

Maybe there is something to the report in the Israeli press that a Saudi agent placed a bomb in the cargo hold. Since Saudi intel and CIA are known to work closely together in staging terrorist attacks, the two might have been complicit in the planning. This story sounds like they're trying to get ahead of possible finger-pointing by putting this idea of CIA culpability out there...

Judging by the rest of the article, it looks like relations between the US and Egypt have really deteriorated (not surprising after two coup d'etats engineered by the US).

There are plane crashes, including small planes, that never make national headlines, and some of those do involve mechanical failure or pilot error. And there's the famous case of the plane that landed on the Hudson after the engines got knocked out of operation by bird intake. Birds are a huge hazard. And in Russia in the first few years after the USSR crashed, there were several plane crashes due to excess luggage on board, including carry-ons. It was out of hand for awhile, but they clamped down on it, and there have been no further incidents AFAIK.

Except that we have spent billions of dollars and millions of hours to take our shoes off and be strip searched only to find out that they slipped the bomb through the back door which nobody was watching. You picked a bad example. Is it any wonder that no terrorist has ever been caught by the TSA.
