The real question, though, is why, since the earth is orbiting the sun, and the sun is orbiting the galaxy's central mass, and galaxy is racing away from the singularity, why doesn't the earth leave the plane completely behind?

Most of us can act as if the earth is flat 99% of the time without any problems, but if you fly in any single direction for long enough, you will find that it is simpler to assume the earth is not flat.

If the air moves with the earth eastward, wouldn't flying east to west be like swimming upstream in a raging river?

anytime you fly into the wind, you have to use more power to maintain airspeed. how much more power depends on how strong the headwinds are.

Why do people spend their time with this flat earth garbage? There are some conspiracy theories worth being skeptical about, but this one??. ANY TIME that I talk to one of these flat earthers they only seem to talk about NASA and how their satellite and International Space Station photos are computer generated

If you are flying against the earth rotation, are you experiencing permanent headwinds up to a 1000 miles per hour then ?
OMG Isn't that what a hot air balloon or a hovering helicopter experiences? Newton seems to have understood more about centrifugal forces and gravity in the 17th century than Mr. Flat Earth in the 21st century. Without gravity the atmosphere, mountains, aircraft, Mom, Dad, Fluffy, Spot, would all go flying off into space from the centrifugal forces from the earth's rotation. That's the problem with flat earth theory, the forces are all wrong, the only way we can experience centrifugal forces in three dimensions is if we are a sphere, and not a disc.

Because most people aren't very analytical and have a minimal understanding at best of science or how the world around them works. Remember Hank Johnson?

Unfortunately that has become a part of our dialogue, if the facts don't agree with their theory, call it fake news and move on regardless. It's like generations of science and discovery down the drain.
