So, as his marriage was falling apart, he may have been depressed to the point of calculating, that his family would be better without him, with the insurance policy?
Still, it's a pretty obvious suicide case. Unless he thought it might look like a hostage situation or something else. Maybe that's what that holding pattern off the NW coast of Indonesia was about; trying to make it look like there was something going on in the plane; a struggle perhaps, hostage demands or something. He was trying to fake a hostage scenario, or some such?
Don't forget that right after the transponders were manually turned off the plane rose to 44,000 feet, high enough to kill all the passengers, before descending back to 35,000 and flying back, making numerous course changes to evade radar stations. Oh yea, and flew right over the pilot's home town.

There were reports of an alleged mistress and the call he made from the plane- they didn’t disclose who he called.
The “holding” pattern - is a new information coming from a HAM radio signals data alleging interruptions by the signals from the plane - the so called satellite “handshakes” data - not yet peer reviewed.
However, I wouldn’t hold my breath as it isn’t in the interests of Malaysian government to find the plane with the strong possibility of a suicide: they will be found liable and will be sued for millions of dollars…
Unless some billionaires would be interested to get to the bottom of it by “accidentally “ finding the plane.
I believe one needs a permission from the government of Malaysia to undertake another official search..

@30:23 Tony Abbott (Australia PM at the time): "It was understood at the highest levels that this was almost certainly mass murder-suicide by the pilot."
@48:00 Author Ean Higgins himself became missing in 2020.
Yeah, I watched it. To say that some of the people being interviewed had unusual theories is putting it mildly. Jeff Wise was sure the pilot did a murder/suicide but then he backs off, he then suggests that some Russian passengers electronically took over the plane and flew it to Kazakhstan in order to shift focus away from the Russian invasion of Crimea. Then there's a French "journalist" who seems to have an ax to grind against the U.S. saying it was brought down over the South China Sea because it was supposedly carrying sensitive electronic equipment.
I don't know what happened to MH 370-I'd hate to think the pilot did it intentionally but who knows. My heart breaks for the surviving families.
There’s compelling evidence that suggests that is was a murder/suicide. It’s happened in the past. But there’s a cottage industry of people who think otherwise. I think the only theory I haven’t heard was an abduction by aliens.

With the added factor that this guy, instead of simply landing at high speed somewhere, very carefully planned out a disappearance to make it all a much bigger deal. Kill the transponders, cruise to nowhere until on fumes, put the craft gently into the water from a few hundred feet up. Sinks more or less intact where it will not be found for decades, if at all. That only a few floatable pieces have been found is proof enough of this, I think.
I think he wanted to die in a plane crash for number of possible reasons. One maybe there is life insurance, two didn't want to disrespect his family by committing suicide. This has happened before right here in the US with FedEx flight 705 pilot riding on the flight attacked the crew with hammers to crash the plane and make it look like a typical plane crash so he could collect 2.5M life insurance for his family. This was prior to 9/11 and was discussed after 9/11 with interviews of the crew.
Here is the Mayday show it's so old you can now watch it for free on YouTube.
It was a suicide for insurance for his family/children: there was a suicide exclusion in the policy.
- the Captain had an affair;
- his wife moved out
- perhaps an affair ended? There was a mysterious short call to an unnamed woman right before the flight? Or plane?- don’t recall exactly
- the captain practiced the flight over the Indian Ocean; wiped out his simulator
- the plane climbed into a dangerous for the plane structural integrity zone of 45000 feet - to kill all on board - the captain had an individual O2 mask
- there could be less important other motives- including personal political views
-the Captain was a smart man and an excellent pilot. Could have completed a soft ditching maneuver- to avoid an obvious crash site display
He did his best to achieve his goal. Was it horrific - yes. That is what mind boggling - there is no defense to avoid similar situations
