Defining "small jet" as 149 seats or fewer which only require 3 flight attendants we see that Delta has a much larger fleet than United and is ordering more.
Delta fleet small jets
110 seats Boeing 717-200 91 active aircraft with three aircraft are stored at Arkansas (BYH).
124 seats Boeing 737-700 10 active aircraft
109 seats Airbus A220-100 26 active aircraft with 19 on order
130 seats Airbus A220-300 50 on order
132 seats Airbus A319-100 57 active aircraft
149 seats McDonnell Douglas MD-88 59 active aircraft
United fleet small jets
128 seats Airbus A319-100 68 active aircraft
126 seats Boeing 737-700 40 active aircraft
The youngest B737-700 flying for United had it's First Flight 30 Oct 2002
The youngest A319-100 flying for United had it's First Flight 07 Dec 2007
I fear that United may have to give up on some small cities if these jets get too old, as they don't seem to be budgeting for any new ones like Delta.
