Default "Death of Baltimore

I feel you!! I am a native to Baltimore and I am so dis-pleased with the abandonment of some of the neighborhoods in Baltimore. I never thought my neighborhood would look like this.

My mind is saying, I think we need to review the property laws. The number of vancanies must be related to folks who died and those who just left those properties and perhaps created a non win situation for local government. I not only look at the visual effect but also the health impact of abandon property on residents that have to deal with living next to long standing abandon properties. The mayor's Vacant to Value project is not a new ideal and other mayors have attempted the same thing. Property owners must be held accountable for allowing this kind of decay to exist.

I would like to invite you to Rootfesit 2011: Many Communites One Voice-a two day outdoor festival being held on the Highway to Nowhere. The festival will occur June 25th and 26th. The festival also includes a 3 day Learning Exchange being held at Coppin State University. The local group, Culture Works has been working in West Baltimore doing cultural organizing and is hoping to change the face and perception of West Baltimore. Trust and Believe, there are many long lived residents of Baltimore that has never stopped working in advocacy for their community.

Google: Alternate Roots and the Highway to Nowhere for more information.

It's a double edged sword unfortunately. Long time residents tend to not appreciate developers marching in and tearing apart abandoned homes to build gaudy multiple master suite dwellings and yet developers won't do the same without massive incentives to work in 'those' areas.

Baltimore is a sh**hole.

With that said there is nothing that can revitalize it, unless the trading and manufacturing industry picks back up. I don't mean to sound cocky but D.C. is the only reason Baltimore is still hanging on.

Baltimore is Detroit by the Bay with the same cast of characters making it happen.

OK, so being the 29th most dangerous city overall isn't a great ranking, but check out how many neighborhoods are still the "dark blue" indicating lower crime rates.
