Caesars unveils details of proposed $310M Baltimore casino - Baltimore Business Journal

Ceasers Entertianment has approved a new casino under its Harrahs Brand in Baltimore, the casino would create over 1,200 permanent jobs and Ceasers vows to hire locally. I heard of this a long time ago and thought it was absolute bull but Ceasers Gaming license should be getting approved sometime in April!!

Apparently the 110,000 sq ft casino will be built adjacent to M&T Stadium and may actually be connected to the stadium via skywalk. This Harrahs is supposed to be somewhat of a flagship location and if it's anything like the one in Chester, PA were in good shape. It's not Vegas quality but it's definitely better than anything you'll see in Dover.

I think it's great and this is the type of thing we need. Now I just hope no anti-progressive dick at city hall will try to ruin this.

what do you think, great for Baltimore or not so great??

While I'm not overly familiar with the data, I thought that in general, Casinos tend to harbor crime and increase criminal activity.

More crime is not what Baltimore needs.

No way in H*** the NFL will let this happen. At least not the skywalk part of it. There's not much they can say about the location, but as far as any modifications to M&T to accomodate it, I doubt the NFL would permit it, even if Ravens ownership approved.

I don't think it would go directly into the stadium, but you can bet on (ha) a skywalk to get gamblers and their money across busy, wide Russell St.

And by the way, this will have no appreciable positive effect on most of urban Baltimore, beyond whatever is bought with the tax revenue. Casinos aren't like other development. See: Chester PA, Atlantic City NJ.

If there is an increase in crime, it would barely be noticed in Baltimore. More likely it would just concentrate it in a new location.

I heard about that and I doubt it will happen, although I like National Harbor a lot of things have been "Proposed" and never happened down there. Also MD does not allow table games, to build a 1 billion dollar casino without table games just seems a little unrealistic to me.
