I am looking to move with family to Ellicott City/Columbia because cultural/racial diversity, the walking trails, and the schools... We are an African Americans family and wanted to ask what the experiences has been for othere African Americans in Ellicott City as there is a smaller concentration of African Americans there and a larger international population.

I could tell you about my wonderful experience living there with the racial diversity, but I'm not AA. Soccer, swim teams, PTA, school events, parks and rec programs/camps, library programs..it's a great mix of every skin color. I think the biggest "problem" is relating to the non-english speaking parents. It's kinda funny when you're at a soccer game and you need a middle-schooler to translate for you ("she was off-sides"). I'd check out the
Howard County Public School System I know that some of our PTA members were involved in this program.
