I'll give a nod again to El Salto, either the North or South location for better than average typical Tex-Mex style comidas-not muy autentico maybe, but cheap and filling.
I've been disappointed with Sinaloa, overpriced and small portions I thought. Except for the carry-out kilos of fresh tortillas-they are tasty when hot.
Still a big fan of Fiesta Mexicana on Philadelphia Rd., and the BEST local tacos still come from the SILVER taco truck parked on Broadway in Fells Point-try the lengua or cabrito (tongue or baby goat).

So glad we found this thread--my wife and I are newbies to the Bmore area (from Silver Spring) and love Mexican food too! We would also recommend El Salto, it's more along the lines of Tex Mex and not traditional Mexican, but really tasty nonetheless.

Also want to recommend Los Amigos on Harford Road (in the Hamilton neighborhood). They have an amazing chips and white salsa dip, and their food is pretty legit too. And lots of margarita combinations.

Fiesta Mexicana in Rosedale we have tried once and really liked (the owner is super nice and talked to us while we ate), but it's incredibly small and only seats about 12 people. No alcohol served there, BYOB. Amazing food though...Taco Love is on Philadephia Road in Nottingham. Same deal, BYOB only. Great tacos and cheap deals on food during the week!

We made the sad choice of trying Don Pablo's in White Marsh the other day, just to see if it was decent. It was probably the worst, most bland Mexican "food" I've ever had. I've heard it's one of the only Don Pablo's still in existence. Hopefully they'll close it down and put in a legit, LOCAL Mexican restaurant in its place!

Has anyone tried Mara Luna? Specifically, the location in Pikesville? I've heard great things about its classic Mexican food and the wife and I are having brunch with friends there this weekend.

An update to my former El Salto recommendation, tho' not for the good. A couple of weeks ago my wife and I were at the Loch Raven MVA, getting our daughter a renewal for her state ID. While waiting for her, we thought we'd get a Margarita and a quick nosh at their Parkville/Carney location in the shopping center's parking lot.
It was about 2:30 on a Tuesday afternoon and the place was all but empty. They refused to serve us when we asked for drinks and a quick menu perusal to decide about a snack, insisting we'd have to order food from the dinner menu to be seated. This treatment in a place where they have full menu page of exotic cocktails!
We were disappointed and left in a polite huff. In addition, my wife said the ladies' room was filthy, and reeked of old excreta poorly masked with bleach. It will probably be awhile before we return.

Los Portales on Aviation Blvd. in Glen Burnie is a good one if you're down by the airport.

There are two Mari Luna locations, and the one that got hit by a truck is the more upscale, latin dining establishment, Go a bit south on Reisterstown road to their second location, which is a real mexican eatery, with tacos, enchiladas and burritos that are HUGE. I just had the tacos there yesterday, as well as a plate of chicken nachos that were outstanding.

The "El Salto" style places are out there. Plaza Garibaldi in Glen Burnie, Los Portalis etc.

Other than the anti white racism and the filth, La Sirinita on Crain hwy in GB is by far the best. It's not "El Salto" style though, it's "cilantro and onions" style. Best orange salsa around, and the tacos (sometimes) come with Cactus and grilled onions that look like large spring onions.

They are sooo racist though. And dirty. They always charge a whitey service fee (ie; tacos are listed at $2.00, but I get charged $2.50.). Also is a struggle to get them to bring me a glass bottle mexican Coke instead of a 20oz plastic gringo Coke.
