I wanted to get people's thoughts on the Woodbourne Heights area. More specifically, the area immediately adjacent to the Alameda Shopping Center where the Shoppers food market is. I was wondering if anybody could provide insight as to whether this neighborhood would be a good match for me. I'm right at the median income for the neighborhood, which is 40k. I'm male, single, and white. I don't have a racist bone in my body - I feel perfectly comfortable in black neighborhoods. What appeals to me about it are rent prices which are affordable to me, and the fact that it is in the correct location for me in terms of public transportation. I work in Towson, and it would only take a couple of buses to get there from this neighborhood. I recognize that the neighborhood is not perfect, and that is fine by me. I just want to make sure it's "relatively" safe - as in, I could walk around in the day time and be safe. Thoughts? Alternatives?

In my experience with Baltimore buses, the routes are not well co-ordinated. You may have to walk a few blocks to transfer, and if you miss the connection, there may not be another for 20 minutes.

I don't have experience with Woodbourne Heights, but if I depended on public transit, I would live only one bus route away. In any case, I would map out the route with Google maps and the public transit option. It looks very close to Towson University, so it may be OK for you. As a white person, I have also lived in a middle-class black neighborhood in Baltimore County. I found the neighbors friendly and helpful.

I live in Woodbourne Heights and feel safe walking during the day. I'm female, single, and a light Hispanic.

Public transportation is pretty good. You have the 3 on Loch Raven, the 36 on the Alameda, and the 44 on Belvedere.
