Well that goes without saying but the bitching and complaining is about the commute from Charles/Calvert/St. Mary's to Crystal City. Bitching and complaining about Prince George's is a cottage industry. And God knows they bring a lot of it on themselves.

Same with schools.. with the level of investment that they are bringing.. I am sure a charter school would have been created smack dab in the middle of this area. 25k jobs average salary $150k... some folks may not even have moved into the city.. they could stay out in Howard County and commute in and be fine. Someone proffered earlier that now that a "package" has been put together with incentives and nice glossy photos and videos ... Baltimore and Plank should go after a couple of other smaller companies to begin to build up Port Covington....

Oh well.....
I can't help but ask, are you saying that crime would be less of an issue in Baltimore than it would be in Arlington, VA?

Amazon's employees would have revolted if they had to live in Baltimore.
Amazon pays poorly and most employee families can't afford private schools
Uhhh, those won't be warehouse jobs. You seem not to know what you're talking about.

Amazon was always going to go to the Washington area one way or another. The national search for a second headquarters was a bit of a sham. It may be that they were debating whether to have one or two second headquarters and the search was really for if and what could be the third headquarter location. Most of the bidding cities never had a shot.

Amazon also played their cards well because they received substantial amount of confidential data from all the bidding cities that will be useful in their future expansion plans. There's something not quite honest about how the whole search was conducted and played out.

Housing prices are already going up. Crystal city is just across the bridge from Ft Wash and Oxon Hill. Realtors are telling ppl to buy now cause it’s going to get much more expensive next year.

well of course realtors are going to say that. They are one step ahead of used car salesmen. 25K jobs in a region with 5 million people will have little effect on anything. Don't believe the hype.

Have you seen Long Island City? It's not exactly Brooklyn or Manhattan. It is home to the largest low-income project in the country.

What is the Under Armor HQ doing in Baltimore? Is Amazon now the bellwether for the best places to move a headquarters? Was Austin no better? Denver? Bethesda?

Amazon chose Crystal City outside of what we think are great places to live and work. We each have our own prejudices and preferences. Amazon is no different. I don't think crime and schools had anything to do with it when looking at their choice in Long Island City.

It was more about proximity. For Crystal City, it was the Pentagon. For Long Island City, it was Manhattan. Crystal City was cheaper than DC proper. Long Island City is definitely cheaper than Manhattan.
