This thread is absolutely fascinating. If the question had been asked about an analogous area in Prince George's (say Oxon Hill) and garnered the same honest answers there would have been charges of racism flying every which way.

All we got left to share in Baltimore is honesty....LOL

Truthfully though.. Baltimore issue is poverty if people want to be honest and frank.. Brooklyn and Curtis Bay I believe are predominately white.. while Cherry Hill is mostly African American.. they all have issues from drugs, petty crime, to murder...The addicts I saw shooting up while they were drinking natty boh and crabbing were white and black.. Though I didn't feel threatened by their presence or they feel nervous about mine..... I didn't care to see people destroy their lives... but the few shots of the water I got while they were doing their thing.. they were focused on the Carnival ship and musing over where it was going and where the folks were from that were on it. it was somewhat sad....

While Brooklyn Park isn't the most wonderful suburb of Baltimore, it certainly isn't the godawful war zone/Hell hole that some would have you believe it is, and while I wouldn't suggest taking a stroll along Ritchie Highway at 2:00 AM, you can certainly live there without taking your life in your hands.

Exactly what part of Brooklyn Park makes a difference in quality. West of Ritchie Highway, south of Belle Grove Road isn't bad, the farther west and south, the better. East of Ritchie Highway is rougher, although once you get south of Seward Ave., it's OK.

not analogous.

Oxon Hill doesn't have prostitutes and junkies/zombies all over the place like Brooklyn does. Oxon Hill has the Tanger outlets, a major casino/hotel and its generally cleaner and less drug infused. I dont see schizophrenic wondering about in Oxon Hill. Brooklyn Park is not nearly as bad as Brooklyn though to be fair.

NOWHERE (and I mean nowhere) in PG do I feel as uncomfortable as in Brooklyn or Curtis Bay-even if the violent crime is higher. I got to pump gas at the royal farms in Brooklyn and dudes are coming up to my car asking for money with theyre needle marks and blotchy complexions. I hate it. Doesnt happen in PG

Ok. trade it to Seat Pleasant/Dodge Park, District Heights, Bladensburg.

You also missed my point, or maybe started to make it.

Thanks for the replies, well Brooklyn Park is pretty diverse from what I have seen, and just a few blocks away from where my family is, right behind (2-3 streets away?) there is Arrundel Village, Brooklyn Homes and when I pass by Patasco Ave and S Hanover St right before getting on the highway, it's pretty pretty bad... homelessness, abandoned homes, I people dealing on the corner, I haven't seen many cops in the area which is just a few blocks. But I found the people to be nice.

Again just my opinion, but great thread lots of very good answers.

Thats because SOCIETY isn't tolerating that in Pg county. Yes there are addicts, and unks all about but nobody is gonna run up on average hard working folks demanding for money like in Baltimore. People arent just going to ignore them and decline they gonna get told about themselves or worse.

Yeah, the more I read this post the sillier it sounds. You are comparing a suburb of DC to a city with six hundred thousand people. Go to any large city in the US and tell them off. Sure. CDFr's.....

I do this all the time in DC too. Again the homeless folks generally mind their business there too. The crazy folks are no more different than ones I'd see in San Diego, just talking to themselves which most crazy people do. That still dont mean you got a right to harras me for change and invade my personal space just bc you are full blown crazy.

In Baltimore it has certainly gotten worse especially around Station North/Penn Station. I think many are being run out of downtown/Inner Harbor and have realized how many folks walk to Penn to go to work in DC and points south. There are atleast at half dozen or so that have taken up residence around Penn between Charles and North Ave. They wade in to the throngs of ped commuters walking up Charles St and and ask for change or table hop at some of the outdoor seating.. With the addition of the theatres on north and the hipster/artsy pocket park at North and Charles.. there are hundreds of potential donors... The most aggressive was a guy in a wheel chair who would dart across Charles in front of the Tapas restaurant and Metro Gallery.. One time he wheeled down the middle of the street and rolled up on the sidewalk and joined a couple at their table much to their surprise...The waiter tried to shoo him off and was verbally assaulted.. Since that incident and I am sure many others.. BPD now have a car that sits out there with a bored looking officer fixed to his mobile phone on Fridays and Saturdays...Hipsters and Homeless thrive together so I am sure there is some form of symbiotic relationship among the two... LOL

The other more bizarre circumstance is the band of guys that sit out in the middle of North and Howard and play the drums as cars pass by in front of the Motor House and the No Tel Motel.. They literally had a bed on the median with a guy sleeping comfortably in the middle of rush hour traffic while his buddies squeegee peoples cars.. Again, I know it may be free speech and what not.. but this is in the middle of a major intersection which is neither safe nor a good impression of the city.. but they are left unchecked. Maybe they are MICA students doing a project???
