I completely forgot this but must add. We had our neighborhood association meeting at St. Elizabeths last night. The police were there giving statistics. Crime in Patterson Park is down once again--nine years in a row. So there has been some light in the tunnel.

Default Call me crazy

Anyone who doesn't check out the Patterson Park area is out of his/her mind. I fully believe that in another five years this will be the new Federal Hill, only better. Just consider the plans for a development "bridge" between Johns Hopkins and Upper Fells Point/Butchers Hill.
Are there minuses? Of course there are.
1. Patterson Park is still work in progress so you will have to possibly deal with various issues.
2. Crosstown traffic, particularly at peak hours, can be hair-raising.
3. Parking can be a problem.
That said, prices, while they have skyrocketed, can still be attractive.
I don't live in the area, but I visit and have been following its evolution in amazement. Also, we went to several WYPR concerts in the park over the summer. The crowds of young professionals, many with toddlers, indicated the neighborhood is dynamic and healthy.

Stay away from southwest Baltimore city.
Not all of SW Baltimore is bad.
I live in Hunting Ridge and have for 5 yrs now with no problems, also there is Ten Hills that is a great neighborhood also.

Hi,

You can check out these places:
Roland Park
Homewood
Canton
Fells Point
Federal Hill
Bolton Hill
Harbor East (I just went to Fresh fields this weekend and was reminded of how nice it is)

To find the boundaries of these areas, you can contact LiveBaltimore and try to get a map so you can follow it along your tour of the city. I recommend these areas because they're pretty safe, close to amenities such as shops and restaurants and dry cleaners. There are markets and/or fairs and neighborhood activities that I think you will like without having to be overly-concerned about your safety.
