We are from the Cleveland area and have been in Baltimore for about a month with a family member with advanced pancreatic cancer. He is inoperable now but is having chemo and radiation at Johns Hopkins. We are now at Homestead (Linthicum) extended stay. It is OK here, but not great. We found a small house for rent on N. Collington near Lamley. It is very close to the hospital and would be convenient for us. We are anxious to know if it is a safe/relatively safe place to live for several months.
Thanks so much for any and all advice.

Lamley is a little "alley" street between Fairmont and Fayette. I think you should go by it to make sure you would be comfortable there. If not, try to find something south of Fairmont in that area. It would be very convenient for you to get to the hospital from that area.

Seems to be on the edge or a little over so you should definitely take a look.

The Metro will take you directly to Hopkins so you don't have to live within walking distance. Then in the city I recommend Mid-town Belvedere, Seton Hill, Mount Vernon, and Bolton Hill The light rail also links up with the Metro so there are even more spots. Just another idea but might not work for you.

If you want to be within walking distance then Upper Fells Point should be fine.

I'd stick w/ anything below Fayette in Upper Fells / Butchers Hill, south / southeast of Hopkins, instead of east of Hopkins. We live on Lombard and feel very safe. Larry

Charles Village is really neat.

It's next to the university not the hospital so I'm not sure how you would get to the hospital from there.

Thanks for the advice. We brought a car and the good drivers of Baltimore have only been forced to honk at me several times.
