Are you both in admisnistrative jobs? Because then you could stick to Baltimore which is less traffic and north of there the houses are less expensive. But if you want/need commuting access to DC also the prices go up.

if we go there it would be because he got hired into law enforcement. i am not opposed to baltimore provided it is affordable and somewhat safe. we are from an urban area of nj.

Ok well law enforcement (cop I assume?) is very dangerous in DC and Baltimore. Maybe you could get him to apply to one of the county departments or the Park Police? Ok I'm a big worrier, but tell him to try that.

Anyway look at upper Baltimore county - start with Towson, then go to Realtor.com...see what the houses are going for. When you find a house then go to greatschools.net and look up the schools for the zip code. Keep moving up the map (which you can get times to baltimore by doing the direction thing) until you find an area with good schools and affordable housing. Does that make sense? You can go all the way to York, Pa and only be about an hour out of the city, so there's lots to look at. But I would say you could get a nice house for your price range north of the city. I wouldn't live in the city the areas that are nice are way expensive and there aren't that many of those anyway. Good luck!

Seriously I have a friend who is a lieutenant with the park police and I could ask how to go about applying there if you want. That job must be safe because she's had it for 17 years and never had a problem...and we tease her about not being able to hit the side of a barn with her gun...LOL. I'm sure she can...but she hasn't had to shoot it except for once other than at the range for practice. Good luck in your search.

Well it is very true that the crim in baltimore and DC is terrible and if u really want to move some where close to Bal. i would suggest some where near towson. I would also suggest that you should avoid any areas near randalstown(spelling*). The racial discrimination from police is high and drugs is the most serious problem in the inner city and some of the outer parts of the city. Check out the whole area before you move as well. Dont end up like my cousin did (gettin shot in bmore for eating mcdonalds outside his house)...good luck
