I would call the Clerk's Office at 474-8682 and ask her.

It is likely that you will not have options.

We used to have an active poster who posted a long detailed story about how she was given a lot of bad information about internet speeds. Eventually she had to go to the ISP office and speak with the techs. Their front office and sales force were all giving out exaggerated speeds and their technology was not capable of providing those speeds. But only the backroom techs would be honest to a customer.

If I can remember her handle, I could try to search for that thread.

Default Thank you

Thank you for the information. My job is remote and my livelihood depends on Internet connection. I guess I should have done this research before buying the property

Don't pay attention to those 10 - 15 year old threads. High speed internet has changed a lot in the last 10 years.

According to FCC website the internet options in Canaan are Charter Communication for cable and Consolidated Communications, Inc. for ADSL. But you should put in your exact address to be certain.

Location Summary _ Fixed Broadband Deployment Data _ Federal Communications Commission

I would start by going to the Charter website, put in your address and see what they tell you. One thing though, don't believe what Charter tells you about speed. They claim their are upping the minimum speed from 200 to 300 Mbps, but here in Oregon, I'm still just getting 100 mbps. That said it should still be adequate for what you need.

If neither of those two options works out for you, you still have Starlink as an option for satellite internet.

Rural broadband options are still not great, but they are slowly improving.

Regardless of what any website says, I would still recommend that you talk to the ISP techs. Find out from them what speeds you should expect to see.

If your property has a clear view of the northern sky, Starlink is available statewide and it's super fast. As long as you have a clear view, there will be no buffering what so ever.
This shows their coverage. The satellites are low orbit so your system connects to them as they pass overhead. they are not geostationary. A geostationary satellite would be 25,000 miles up, starlink satellites orbit 350 miles above the earth.
