Hi Everyone,

Last December I submitted a post to this site when we were interviewing for jobs in Bagor. We finally decided and are moving this July! We settled on Orono for the schools and have rented a house there. So thanks to everyone for your advice on schools, certainly you can't go wrong with any in the area.

Now, I have another question for you. We need to store about half of our household goods in a long-term storage unit. Do we need a climate controlled unit? I've been told by a local moving co in Bangor than unless we use climate controlled storage that our items will be damaged by mold due to the high humidity that we would find in a metal self-storage unit.

Does anyone have experience with this? Do you agree that climate controlled/warehouse storage is the only way to go? We have many books, some furniture, and an assortment of other hh items to store.

Thanks!

I think it would be wise to go with climate controlled storage. We've had household items in regular storage, but it was only for 3 months. I could definitely see an issue with mold or mildew if it's for longer time periods, espially when it comes to books. Here is some info:

What are the Advantages of Climate Controlled Storage?

Hope it helps!

I also agree with the climate controlled storage.
Best wishes on your life in Maine. I am also a transplant from NJ(just north of Princeton, actually!) This is such a beautiful state, and is home to beautiful, friendly people...Good luck on your move!
