Big, big day for Houston.....

The Astros get Martin Maldonado, Aaron Sanchez, and Zack Greinke by the deadline today. Wow!!! I listened to my co-workers, and they were just in awe when they found out about Greinke coming in here. Even Joe Biagini is coming in as an additional bullpen component.

This is a team that's committed to winning, and this day showed that.

Default Sanchez Debuts With No-No

^^ And here's another big day for Houston:

Astros fans see the team's twelfth no-hitter and the second combined no-no Houston's had. It was also only the second no-hitter thrown at Minute Maid Park. And it wasn't new acquisition Zack Greinke, either. He starts this coming Tuesday. No, tonight, it was none other than Aaron Sanchez who started the no-no and saw others finishing it.

Oh, and Sanchez won tonight. First victory since April. .... April.

Astros finally got some games in in Chi-Town, but they got a split. Cole was scratched in Game 2 due to a hamstring injury, hopefully nothing too serious. Rubber game is this afternoon.

I’m at the Astros game right now.

Verlander is pitching for the Astros, and the Astros are playing the Tigers.

Before the game, the Astros (with Caesar’s Sports Book) were the biggest favorites for one MLB game in at least 15 years. It is is also Josh Reddick bubblehead night.

Through the first 4 2/3, Verlander was pitching a perfect game, retiring the first 14, with 6 strikeouts.

Then he gave up a home run to Rodriguez.

The fifth just ended, and the Astros didn’t score, so it’s 1-0 Tigers lead.

3 up, 3 down for Verlander in the 6th.

2 more strikeouts, for a total of 8.

and 65 total pitches (51 strikes, and 14 balls).

Alexander has even fewer pitches through 6 (bottom of the 6th just ended) at I think 58 (22 balls and 36 strikes)

Chirinos just bounced one off the railroad track above the Crawford Boxes, so Verlander won’t have to suffer a loss for the one batter he didn’t Get out .

...and He’s out there to start the 8th (76 pitches through 7 full)

score is 1-1

ETA: 6 or 7 pitches to get the first two outs. Then 3 balls, and then....three strikes, the last one swinging.

10 strikeouts through 8.

22 balls and I believe 66 or 67 strikes.

Verlander came out to pitch the 9th

First three batters....2 outs....and a home run . Third out....a strikeout .

9 innings, 11 strikeouts, 29 batters....27 outs and 2 solo home runs.

Bottom of the 9th 2-1 Detroit.

ETA:

......WOW.....

Chirinos hits a two out double and is thrown out at third trying to stretch it into a triple to end the game.

Tough loss for Verlander.

And the Astros............................lose.

This was one you really don't want to lose, especially with that huge Vegas wager. Houston just didn't hit tonight, and Verlander made things interesting. The problem with Justin is, he's home-run prone. Gave up two more tonight....

Well, here we are, and the Astros finally get a deserved day off after their sweep of the Angels.

Next up, the Rays at Minute Maid. Must-win games.
