OK, I didn't realize a team was only allowed one DH per game.
A team can have multiple DHs. But the DH can only DH, not play the field.
For example, a team starts off with Babe Ruth at DH. Ruth bats in the 1st, 3rd and 6th innings. In the 9th inning Jeff Francoeur pinch hits forRuth and stays as the DH. No problem (other than you're pinch hitting Francoeur for Ruth).
But,
Ruth starts the game as the DH and Francoeur starts as the RFer then in the 6th inning you bring in Lou Brock to pinch run for Francoeur. Brock is immediately picked off of first. You don't want Brock to play RF so you send Ruth out to play RF. Since Ruth was the DH he's not allowed to play the field. Now you lose the DH for the rest of the game.

Ruth isn't allowed to play the field....so he goes out to play the field?
I'm guessing you meant that Ruth can move to play rightfield, but it comes with the penalty of losing the DH?

.
So, if the A's had Reggie Jackson at DH. Jackson bats in the 1st, 3rd and 6th innings. In the 9th inning Shooty Babbit pinch hits for Jackson and stays as the DH. No problem (other than you're pinch hitting Babbit for Jackson) Right....
Do you think they should stop having Parker be the closer or give him some more chances? He's blown a few leads lately in the 9th and almost did in the last game of the Angels series.
I doubt it...the pitching is starting to fade since the Suzuki trade (coincidentally?) and the offense is not picking up for it. They're basically a quality leadoff hitter, three meat-of-the-order heavy hitters, and five guys who are struggling to stay above the Mendoza Line. 4/9ths of a lineup can only win for so long before regressing to the mean.
With Sizemore back at 3B and Inge as a backup, Grant Green hopefully stealing the 2B job from Weeks, and Beane finally snagging an above-replacement-level SS in the offseason, this team will be dangerous next year (health determinant, of course).
