In 1916, the year the Giants set the MLB record of 26 consecutive wins, they did not win the pennant. In fact, they finished fourth, and played six games below .500 in the games before and after the streak. Besides their 26 game winning streak, they had also won 16 in a row earlier in the season. Those two streaks accounted for half their wins for the whole season. They lost 7 of their last 8, and finished 7 games out of first place.
July 19, 1975, second game. Orioles leading A's, 5-1, in the ninth, but the A's have the bases loaded, one out. Orioles bring in a reliever, and Sal Bando grounds into a double play to end the game.
That was the last time a save was recorded by a pitcher in the starting rotation who would go on to win the Cy Young award. It was Jim Palmer.
In 1948 Ernie Harwell was a broadcaster for the AA Atlanta Crackers when the Dodgers sent catcher Cliff Dapper to the Crackers in exchange for their breaking Harwell's contract so that he could be hired as a temporary replacement for the Dodgers' Red Barber. Harwell thereby became the only broadcaster ever to be traded for a player.
...in 1988, San Diego Padres catcher Benito Santiago led the majors in both passed balls and in errors by a catcher. Yet, he won the NL Gold Glove at catcher that year, largely due to his ability to throw out base stealers from his knees, when most catchers would go to their feet to throw.
He holds some other notable distinctions - in 1987, Santiago set the current record for longest hitting streak by a catcher at 34 games. In 1993, he hit the first regular season home run in Florida Marlins history.

The 34-game streak was also a rookie record. I don't know if it's been broken.
This is more of a you DIDNT know, but one of the favorite trivia questions you will hear around Chicago sports bars is who did babe ruth replace in the yankee outfied? The "answer" is always cited as George Halas (aka Papa Bear), however this is not true - Halas did indeed play a little over a dozen games as a Yankee in 1919, but the person who Ruth replaced was actually Sammy Vick.
