As we all know, the Yankees moved into their new bandbox of a stadium this past year, which cost approximately $1.56 billion to build. Of that, an estimated $1.2 billion is being payed for by city, state, and federal taxpayers.

If the Yankees have such a large revenue stream, so much so that they signed 3 players in the off season to contracts totaling some $482 million..why are they feeding at the public trough?

I find it interesting that while the SF Giants, almost a decade ago, financed their beautiful new ballpark almost entirely with private funds, the big money Bankees chose to saddle the public with the majority of the tab..

The Yankees are receiving nothing less than corporate welfare, in the form of the largest stadium subsidy in sports history. Then turning around and using the revenue created from their ill gotten gains to create even more of an unfair competitive advantage.

Doesn't seem right to me..

Our results indicate:
• The professional sports environment in the 37
metropolitan areas in our sample had no measurable
impact on the growth rate of real per capita
income in those areas.
•The professional sports environment has a statistically
significant impact on the level of real per
capita income in our sample of metropolitan areas,
and the overall impact is negative.

Because the city didn't want them to move to New Jersey, taking all the tax revenue they generate with them.
