Had him and Kobe been able to work out their problems and start being cohesive with one another again they probably would've won a few more. It's a shame Kobe wasn't able to 3peat, but he has shown that he can lead a team which was hard for him to do with Shaq there which helps cement his status. Kobe would go for Shaq's jersey getting retired.

That team had the talent to win 5 titles, maybe not in a row, but certainly had Shaq stayed with the Lakers until about 2006, and been paired with the prime Kobe who averaged 35 points, provided they had the right complimentary pieces, I can't see them not winning a minimum 4 titles.

I was 4 when he was a rookie and I'm now 22. The NBA won't be the same without him.

19 years later we can not decide if he lived up to the legacy of the Big Men?

One thing I have to say about Shaq is that he is one of the greatest personalities in NBA history. He never acted like a thug, and still put fear into his opponents hearts.

Does anyone miss the early 90's?

I remember the backboards he broke with orlando. Against phoenix and new jersey.

I miss that old suns team of oliver miller, barkley, dan majorie, kj, chambers, danny ainge, etc. That '93 team was probably one of the best western conference teams of the last 15 years not to win a title. It was the first time I ever saw a backboard broken, where the support mechanism behind it collapsed.

When shaq broke the backboard against new jersey, the backboard almost came down on top of him. i think he's one of the best rookies from any sport in the last 25 years.

I can't think of many rookies as hyped up as shaq, who go onto have such successful careers. Remember Glen Robinson, the $100 million man? or Shawn Bradley, Danny Ferry....Christian Laetner?? Grant Hill??

Harold Miner??? Baby Jordan, lol. Shaq schooled all of them. He was really good for the game. I bet David Stern didn't like to see him go.
