Lets forget that he never had a legitimate superstar player when he was on the 76ers. Not to mention when he was on the Nuggets, Carmelo Anthony was a bigger ball hog then him. Lets continue to go on with the Iverson bashing.

That's because Iverson couldn't play effectively within the team concept with another star caliber player (or more accurately star caliber offensive player) on the team. Remember the oil and water-like play of Iverson and Jerry Stackhouse together or Iverson and Larry Hughes together? To be fair, those guys were sort of ball hogs themselves, but they were ineffective playing with Iverson because Iverson had the ball all the time.

Iverson needed to play with players who didn't need the ball too much to be effective within the team concept (or more accurately for his team to successfully integrate Allen Iverson's skill set into the team and enhance the team's play), i.e. defensive-oriented, rebounding-oriented, and/or passing-oriented players. When Iverson played with offensive-oriented players, especially offensive-oriented players at the 2 and 3 spots, the combination of Iverson and that other player ended up being less than the sum of their parts.

You genuinely don't understand basketball if you don't understand how Iverson's ball hog tendencies limited his team's abilities, including having him play with another superstar caliber player. The 76ers would not have been successful teaming Iverson with another superstar because it would created an oil and water situation.

The only thing worse than having a superstar player who is a ball hog on your team is having TWO of them on your team at the same time. That's what Denver had when they had both Iverson and Anthony on the team. Such a pairing was doomed to failure from the start.

So if Iverson had a player like Shaq, you don't think the team could be successful? The one year when he had a good bigman(Dikembe Mutombo) they went to the NBA Finals. Just think if he had a super star player like Shaq on his team. So I don't want to hear that crap about he can't play successfully with another superstar caliber player.

As for the nuggets situation, Carmelo Anthony was known at that time for not being a good team player and also had some character issues both on and off the court. Iverson's issues were manly off the court as he always gave it his all on the court unlike many of these flopping players today. Your right in that that Iverson's trade to the Nuggets was doomed from the start since Carmelo Anthony was a bigger ball hog and diva.
