As a Gopher fan, I sure hope not.

The Minneapolis Tribune believes that is a possibility and was mentioning things that could be done top keep Tubby Smith here.

I would be surprised to see him take the Auburn job as I see it as at best equal to the Minnesota job. Every other job move he was made as been a step up (Tulsa to Georgia, Georgia to Kentucky) or a step away from too much pressure. I do think Tubby recruits the South much better than the Midwest but I'd imagine he knew that when he took the job.

University of Minnesota is always a transition job.

Tubby Smith has never really done anything as a b ball coach. He did win one national championship in the late 90's after literally being handed Rick Pitino's team from the year before. Tubby Smith is not and has never been a big time coach.

If I were AU, I wouldn't want OTS as my coach.

Tubby ball is not an exciting brand of basketball at all. Keep that stuff in the Big10 where it belongs.

I'm not saying Tubby is the best coach out there, but to say he hasn't done anything is crazy. The man has had 17 out of 20 years or so of 20+ wins. He has won at every place he has been including such basketball backwoods places as Tulsa, Georgia, and Minnesota. He has been to the tournament 16 years and won the SEC 4 times (3 times with his own guys). Heck, no one would doubt Coach K is a great coach, but he has had his fair share of teams that got knocked off in the tournament. Now, I'm not comparing Tubby to Coach K, but Tubby can coach. He may not be the most exciting coach, but Auburn hasn't been that great lately.

There was talk of that in the media here in Minnesota also.

Maybe Tubby Smith is fed up with the uncertainty of 3 players ( who didn't play this year)

Sid Hartman ( Mpls Tribune) stated the Gophers could compete for the Big Ten Championship--if--three players who didn't play the season play next year.

--IF--Trevor Mbakwe clears up his legal issues over an assault charge in Miami
--IF--Royce White clears up his legal issues and returns to school ( dropped out of school after the first quarter )

--IF--Al Nolan returns to the team ( started the first half of the season, but missed the second half due to academically ineligible

Maybe Tubby Smith is tired of all those--IF's )

What's with these coaches. No place is ever good enough. How big of a school does he want. He's already coaching in the 2nd largest (enrollment) college in the nation. If he stays where he's at and builds upon this year, he can make top 10 pay right here at the U. of M. The U is the only D-1 college in the state. Compare that potential against many of the other states. Heck, even Iowa has four D-1 basketball programs.
