What is average household water consumption for 2 adults in January. No outdoor water usage. Does 160 gallons daily sound like a lot? Thanks Joan Comeaux

I thought it sounded like a lot until I did an online water usage calculator. Trying to be worst-case with my usage, it calculated that I could easily use 360Gal in a day. Of course that included washing clothes and dishes daily, which I don't. If I take those out and just calculate daily usage without the clothes and dishes, it comes out to more like 105Gal. But if I do clothes and dishes on the same day, then it'll be more like 360 again.

If I take those numbers and average for any given week, (assuming I wash clothes once a week/ 5 loads) then it comes up closer to an average of 150Gal a day.

I still think it is somewhat high but I did use worst case accounts. Also, when I compare my average with the American Water Works Association, it's very high (they say 69), but compared to some cities such as Lubbock and Lake Oswego, I was right on average with the 105.

So I guess it's possible.

The national average is 75 gallons a day per person. This includes showers, cooking, cleaning, toilets, laundry and all indoor water use.

Just paid the bill yesterday.

Billing summary says we used 1500 cubic feet of water in January, which is just over 360 gallons per day average. The charge was $20.04. (1 cubic foot = 7.48051948 US gallons)

Actually 15 cubic feet per month is average, Joan — based on an article that appeared in The Advocate last month.
