Coyotes are the biggest threat. Coyotes are good climbers. I have a dog door out to a kennel that is welded steel, with livestock panels over the top and wire covering the ground to prevent digging. My poultry aren't covered, but they are inside a 7 foot tall fence, and either that is tall enough to keep a coyote out, or else the coyotes haven't been hungry enough to attempt the fence. (it keeps the deer out)

The large owls and hawks might be a threat to a very small dog, like a chihuahua or a min pin. Pugs tend to be too big for them. I don't think they are attracted to small dogs, anyway, unless they are very hungry.

I live very near to a bald eagle nesting area and the bald eagles will fly over my property a couple of times a day. I've seen them fly down low to take a look at my poultry, but they have never attacked my poultry or my 6 pound dogs. A Great Horned owl lives on my back property line. He eats a lot of rabbits, but hasnt shown any interest in either poultry or small dogs.

I've had a group of magpies try to take a very small puppy. But an adult pug is probably too big for them.

My worst predators are crows. They steal eggs, ruin my veggie garden, and they have killed several chickens, a couple of ducks, and a full grown goose.

A raccoon killed several turkeys and might kill a small dog.

A mountain lions lives in the cliffs right behind me and the only reason I know he is there is every few years, I will see his tracks in fresh snow.

My neighbor's rottweiler was attacked by coyotes, so being big doesn't necessarily protect a dog from a coyote.

Additional note: if your fenced area is small enough, you can put coyote rollers on the top of the fence and that will keep the coyotes out.

I say they are for a "smaller" yard, because they aren't cheap and it would cost an awful lot of money to do a long fence with them.

If you haven't bought the chain link kennel, yet, don't. Go to Big R and buy the welded steel mesh kennel. I think the brand name is Magnum.

The problem with chain link is the the bottom of it is weak and can be pulled up to make a gap under the fence.

Costco sometimes has a welded kennel, and I've recently seen them in Home Depot (or maybe it was in Lowes)

I've been surprised by how bold and clever crows can be. I've seen them land rather close to people and proceed to pull the zippers open on backpacks in search of food.

Default Coyote Rollers?

We are interested in moving to the area and have outdoor small pet enclosures. What are coyote rollers for the top of the enclosures and how do they work? Is 1/2 inch plywood over the tops of enclosures (chain link or the welded dog kennel type pens) sufficient to keep coyotes out? What about bobcats, any problem with those?
