50-something, divorced, I am on the verge of taking a consulting job in which I can work from home. Love outdoor sports (mountain biking, skiing, backcountry skiing etc)

My short list is Eugene, Bend, Burlington VT, Asheville NC, maybe somewhere in Colorado

Is Bend a good place to meet people? My current town is mostly married people, with school kids (my children are college age and at Oregon State)

How is road biking there? While I would like to do mountain and gravel, I still like riding on the roads.

Is the area progressive (politically speaking)? I don't mind conservatives but cannot abide Trumpers.

House prices for a 3 bedroom, 2000 sq foot home in a good neighborhood?

Nobody talks much about road biking in Bend as a feature.....but it is. I live just off the Oregon Scenic Bikeway and when I get the urge to road bike, just roll out my driveway and in 2 blocks I am on an appropriately named Scenic Bikeway. Main issue is the road seams on some roads (thump thump every 100 feet) so you need a "forgiving" road bike. Lots of people out mtn AND road biking. Main downside is the occasional Redneck Rolling Coal on bikes, but luckily that is fairly rare.

I am married and 67, so I don't know about the singles scene, but I would think the opportunities to meet someone would be good IF you want to meet a sports oriented, active person, and put yourself out there in the multitude of sports Meetups available.

Bend area is an interesting mix of politics. A blend of Liberals and Trumpettes. Smart local people are tolerant of differing views because you never know what views you are going to run into at any moment. Definitely more Liberal in town, and VERY Trump outside of town. I am ok with the mix because it sort of keeps either extreme from getting too much in control.

3 bedroom, 2000 square feet in a Good Neighborhood. Wild guess, but likely $425k-$650k in Bend, if you shop around, and occasional better deals. Avoid bargain houses right on the very active railroad tracks, especially near a RR crossing. Figure $100k less if you choose Redmond, which is 15-20 minute drive north.

My hunch is that Bend is close to 50/50 on politics. Head N,E, or S of Bend and it gets more conservative. The W side of the cascades tends to be more liberal.

672 square feet is definitely not 2000 square feet. What is your point in reference to the OP's question?

I think it is an interesting example of the hot RE market in Bend.

The Central Oregon MLS returns 68 properties when searching for residential properties between 1900 - 2100 sq/ft.

Prices start at $295,000

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2...0600951_zpid/?

and end at $1,600,000
