I remember driving from ITO to koa and there was this bakery place mauka of the highway near Onomea that was in some converted romm of garges/shops that sold pasteries and malasadas. Does anyone remember this place and is it still there? I never really had the time to check on it in the last few years but it was a great early moring place to stop and load up on the sugar

Maybe you're thinking of Baker Tom's in Papaikou. It's still there and still good although I prefer Tex Drive In's malasadas. You can usually find some Baker Tom's malasadas with Poha berries at the Hilo Farmer's Market - very tasty!

Yes, yes thats the place. Papaikou?, so close to Hilo? tahts why i couldn;t find it, I was thinking way pass that and more like where the post office is in Pepekeeo area. No wonder I never saw it again. Thanks, will make a stop at all the places next trip. I often will arrive at KOA but have to go to ITO to make arrangements for transfers, assuming not going via Saddle Road and taking 19 the whole way, where are all the best places to stop for malasadas from KOA to ITO? (best if they also have coffee) I;ll try them all and report back!
