What is the most commonly used flight path for jets, or other airplanes, to fly into the airport at Hilo?

I'm curious, because someone who sold a lot near Pahoa said they had to disclose that airplanes flew over, in addition to their frog and lava flow disclosure

I doubt it's the scheduled airline flights they were referring to. If you look at the map, the main runway at Hilo is west - east.

It seems to me they mean the large number of small-plane tourist sightseeing flights that are headed for the lava spill area just a little south of Pahoa.

And then there are the black helicopters from the DEA.

They are probably talking about flightseeing operations. Not sure that they HAD to disclose it... but they did. In that area you are describing there are no takeoff/landing jet noise problems from the Hilo airport.

And I got a frog disclosure for some land near volcano where we've never heard a frog. It's just standard business these days to overdisclose everything. And yes... lava. It's a volcanic island. Pretty soon we're going to have to fill out "it rains" disclosures.

When I bought my property, years before any coquis had been reported anywhere in the area, the coqui disclosure (there MAY be coquis, visit the property at night, etc.) was described as standard and required. Dunno if that's true, but it's how it was described to me "because there have been so many lawsuits over this."

Most likely, the flight path they were referring to was for sightseeing aircraft. Small planes and helicopters fly lower than commercial aircraft and when the lava is doing interesting things there are a lot of small planes and helicopters flying overhead taking tourists to and fro. There is also the Green Harvest folks, those are helicopters looking for pot plants and then folks rappel down ropes and dig up the plants. That takes a lot of helicopter noise to do.

Green Harvest folks? Are they government eradicating pot, or are they pot thieves?

Hawaii's "pot thieves" don't usually have access to helicopters.

They might be both, I heard rumors once about a pilot who flew green harvest during the day and went back unofficially later. But that was just an unsubstantiated rumor. Wonder how green harvest manages with the folks who are allowed to grow the stuff? Helicopter flutters down and makes off with the plants but the plants are legal, do they have to put them back?

Wish they'd go to war on coqui frogs instead. Then they could flutter around in helicopters and folks would cheer for them.
