Since I have researched air fares to Hawaii, I am getting a lot of ads offering specials (thanks, Google). I am seeing the special sale prices going up.

I hope it is because we are getting closer to tourist season and not that the fares are taking another big jump, permanently.

Closer to tourist season? High season is June-August and holidays. Low season is ironically winter (unless a holiday like NYE, etc). Highest airfare is traditionally summer but oil is up lately so that might be it.

Hard to say. It actually could be a sign that advance bookings are up. The yield management software they're all using now makes it harder to compare pricing, when the ticket quotes can literally change from morning to afternoon, and a given leg can easily vary 3X from lowest to highest prices on the same seat type but different time of day. It's genuinely crazymaking.

Speaking only about the Big Island, cause that's all I really pay attention to, there are two high seasons, over the summer months (traditional US vacation time) and winter (get away from the cold, burn off unused flex time, enjoy the holiday bonus). Although there is a bump in travel around Thanksgiving, the historical pattern for the winter rise in fares started mid-Dec and lasted until March. These days, it's hard to tell what they'll do.
