Are there much of a chili pepper growing industry on the BI, and if so, any local varieties unique to the B.I. or the State in general?

Has anyone had experience growing chilis on the B.I.? Results?

There is the Hawaiian Chili Pepper - they are smaller and it grows more like a small bush than a plant. People sell them in small bags for $2 at the farmer's markets. Don't think there is a lot of profit to be had at that rate though.

Yeah, I buy Hawaiian Chilis and the little Thai Chilis at the Farmers Market.

Here's an interesting data sheet I found on peppers in Hawai'i.

Those little peppers are so easy to grow. Just get a plant, stick it in pot with some soil and food, water it, and it will reward you for a very long time with more little peppers than you'll probably be able to use.
Pretty, too.

There is one of those Hawaiian chili pepper bushes in the back yard, I didn't plant it, it came with the house. Don't even try to pick them with bare fingers, you'll forget and rub your eyes.
