There was one near COSTCO, Kona side. Think they closed end of last year though.

I just Googled "beauty schools big island" and found some information. I suggest you do the same and also check the Community Colleges.

Probably the lack of beauty schools is due to a multiplicity of factors. Added to lack of overall population is that not a lot of folks dress up much on the island. Then the economic downturn so folks would spend even less on beauticians. Along with the vog that has been here for quite a few years now - I'm thinking we probably have less tourists over there than we used to. So not a lot of call for beauticians. Seems the little barbershops are disappearing, too. There used to be three in our little town, not sure if there's any left or not.

All good points. Not to mention the homemade signs I've seen in front of houses that offer cheap haircuts. I'm only guessing that they aren't formally trained and are unlicensed.

You never got the bowl-on-your-head haircut from your auntie? Nobody ever asked about her license!

Aloha,

I saw an ad recently on Craigslist by Alter Ego, a salon about 5 minutes south of Kona, for an intern. May be start by interning some where?

You can't start by interning. First you have to get a certificate from an approved school, then get a license.
