See Davephan? A forestry degree did get me somewhere!
...now if I can just get motivated to write an Ironwood tree management plan for Kaua'i!
That's great to hear that the forestry degree helped you land a high paying job, full time with benefits, and maybe a pension! Now, you can live on a fraction of you're income and save a lot of money for retirement!

Well, I hope it's a high paying career, you can live debt free well below your means, and save a lot of money...

Yeah, yeah. This is how I remember them... covered in prickles... something to throw at kids you didn't like.

THAT'S what those things are! There are 2 trees on the golf course I play at that have those spiky things. FYI - if you T one up and give it a good whack with your driver it pretty much turns into a cloud of spikey bits flying everywhere...

Thanks for the DM Merced Mullet! You were willing to relocate to gain employment after you obtained your forestry degree and live well below your means, starting while you were young. You are an example for others to follow. Because of your sacrifices during your life, you can now afford to be living the dream, living in Hawaii.

IO - I watch the games at 6:00 am every Saturday morning! I actually get numerous comments when I wear my Buckeye shirts in Hilo. There are a lot more fans in Hilo and Puna than there on this forum. Trust me on that one!

There is an older Mazda Miata around Pahoa Village that has some sort of abbreviation of buckeye on the license plate, and an Ohio State sticker on the bumper...

Aloha - So maybe I can get a personalized plate with some variation of Buckeyes on it?

I was raised in Ohio and graduated from Ohio State, but here life is not about meeting like-minded people. There are sports bars but you will not find the sort of group sports focus here that you do on the mainland, except for baseball. Here people are more participatory in sports and do paddling, marathons, yoga, etc. Being a fellow Buckeye I feel entitled to tell you that you are going to a culture that is not the one you left and bringing your interests with you will deprive you of a lot of great experiences. On the other hand, the west side of the Island is really a good place for you as they are more mainland there. East side where I live is more Hawaiian.

Aloha laurarice - thank you for your comments. But, since I'm almost 70 and had quad bypass surgery last year, and my wife has her own mobility issues, we won't be doing many marathons, etc. I didn't realize that watching the Buckeyes was a character flaw.....
