Most of you will think this a trivial issue, not worth discussion. You are not addicted.
Those that smoke... get it.
A big bag (16oz) of ultra cheap American Pride 'pipe' tobacco (really cig rolling cut, relabled to avoid recent 'sin tax' hikes... I wouldn't smoke this dry stuff in a pipe!), runs about $18.... no papers. About $1.25 for a book of Bugler/Top papers. Much the same for a Bic lighter.
How do prices around BI compare? Should I pad the carry-on and mailed packages w/ as much baccy as I can?

RC

A pound of Vision hunter is $23 at Irie Smoke shop in Pahoa, probably cheaper in Hilo. About $2 for lighters and papers.

Do you have a link or resource on that? Because, my research at the USPS site, shows it as ok to mail to Hawaii or Alaska...
I suppose they could be wrong, and your data is correct.... after all, isn't that usually the case?

Looking at the weather in areas where tobacco is traditionally grown, I think you might be able to grow your own tobacco in Hawaii

You can't ship to Hawaii. But you can send within Hawaii.

Cigarettes & Tobacco
Most cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products may not be mailed domestically or internationally.

Cigars may be mailed domestically. They may also be shipped internationally unless the country you are shipping to prohibits it.
Maybe you can just roll some one pound cigars for shipping and break them down as needed.

@wv1
I sit corrected. My original research was hurried and therefore protracted. Reading further and deeper, I realize now that my initial interpretation of the base info was colored by my desire to 'be allowed'. The opening blurb is slightly misleading... but if one reads further... 'Intrastate'. My original take on the opening blurb was 'you can send to hawaii, as long as it doesn't leave...' This is wrong. My things have been mailed.... WITHOUT tobacco. I will carry what I can on carry-on.
I go now to edit my original post to remove reference to USPS. (Don't want to inadvertantly influence those that aren't willing to research or even read further...)
Thank you.

RC
