I just saw that 41.6 percent of voters in Puna voted for Trump. This seems almost as unlikely as Trump's national victory. I would never have expected this. Puna?

I'm surprised it's only 41.6% - drive thru the land of no trespassing signs sometime

That applies only to "Precinct 03-03," which had a mere 201 registered voters and was "mail-in only." "Precinct 03-04" (Keaʻau High School) had 5,237 registered voters and 24.6% voted for Trump. "Precinct 04-01" (Hawaiian Paradise Park Community Center) had 6,566 registered voters and 30.8% voted for Trump. If one crunches all of the numbers, the actual percentage of folks that voted for Trump in Puna is closer to the islandwide average of 26.9%.

The pocket precinct was listed as being in Pahoa only. I haven't even found a good definition for "pocket precinct" on Google.

A "pocket precinct" is one that's too small and/or inconvenient for a physical polling place and is completely "virtual." State Senator Russell Ruderman provided an info sheet a few years back that explained it…

And, here's an article that explains the rationale behind it…

I get it now. The second article explains it best. When Puna was redistricted Pahoa village was split in two down the main street, leaving around 400-450 people on each side of town, mostly older folks.
