I am a landlord for a townhome near the beach in my city and I prefer no pets, but have allowed pets. I will tell you why I want to find somebody with no pets. Pets tear the home up! The first tenant lied to me and said he had only 1 dog. He had two and they chewed the floorboard and wood blinds up. Never again will I ever let somebody rent with big dogs. I prefer no pets for sure, but the current tenant has a small dog, that I allowed. This is why landlords don't want pets, because they can ruin the house, and bring the need for repairs.
