Bolus,
Thanks for sharing those photos. I agree with you... beautiful. Mother Nature in all her glory. Much better than 18 wheelers and diesel fumes.

There's a place up there along your daily commute, it's just on the Waimea side of that scenic overlook -where the clouds just swirl around and dance all day long. Once a friend and I sat on the side of the road for about an hour and just got mesmerized watching them.

Our story is contrary to most of the good, intelligent advice on this forum. Things just worked out for us, and we feel very lucky. We had visited Puna 3 times before actually deciding to live in Hawaiian Beaches. Our plan was to finish the remodel on our home in California and make sure it was in excellent condition before we put it on the market. That took a lot of money and time (9 months and too many $ to think about). But last year on July 4th, our home was listed and we were on our way. During our remodel in February 2016 we did a quick trip over to look at what was available. Lucky for us, one of the homes was still on the market when we sold our home in California (closing mid September). We moved on it quickly and our offer was accepted. In the meantime, we went through the process to move our 2 cats (starting December 2015) and were ready to go in September 2016 (flying to Hawaii the day before we closed our California home). Luckily we found a 2 bedroom home to rent in Ainaloa thanks to our real estate agent! It's not easy to find a place that accepts pets.

2 1/2 weeks after arriving here, we were moving into our home! That was October 5, 2016. It has now been over 9 months since we moved here and we are enjoying every minute of living here! The home we moved into has a nearly perfect setup for what we want. We remodeled the downstairs and are listing it on airbnb. At the end of last year we obtained the tax permits and registered the vacation rental portion of our home with the county. We have gotten to know all of our neighbors in the immediate vicinity and feel a closeness to neighbors that we never felt in California. We have planted many exotic fruit trees on our nearly barren lot. Already we have blossoms from lilikoi, papaya and lemon trees.

If you have a plan that fits within your reasoning, expectations and budget, I say "go for it!" We only have one life and it should be lived to the fullest, IMO!

Well HawaiiDee - as a first post - in my opinion your story is just as likely to be completely fake as potentially real. Just saying.

There are a ton of people who egg people on to move only for them to find it financially devastating then the original poster disappeared.

Auwe you two! Chill a bit, it can happen if someone comes over half a year earlier to buy a house before they move over. Still, even with a half year lead time, they still had to rent for a bit til their house had closed.

Aloha HawaiiDee! E como mai!

Sounds like you're enjoying Hawaiian Beaches. What's been your favorite part so far? What's been the biggest difference between HB and California? Perhaps a review from someone recently moved over will help the OP, Tfox799etc.

OK folks, been listening to all the advise.
Give me your opinions on Volcano, and Mountain View.
HOpefully be working out of Hilo. I understand either of those places might be a little better of a commute to work?
Volcano seems much cooler. IS it true because of the elevation.....fewer creepy crawling bugs? Also, if I had a wood burning stove would the idea of getting wood delivered be out of the question?
