Curious if anyone has used composting toilets on the BI, if they are approved by B&S, etc.

It would seem to be a no brainer, but some municipalities still don't get it.

The composting system eliminates all the human waste from going into the ground, and eliminates the need for a cesspool or septic system.

Grey water, from sinks and showers, can be used for irrigation, (Not sprayed over the ground, but rather, routed directly underground to where it's wanted). so that reuses that waste product.

Anyone know? Thanks.

As far as I know, yes, you can utilize a composting toilet, but greywater must go through some sort of a cesspool. Check with the county.

I'm aware of a few people getting a composting toilet approved, but they were required to have cesspools for the gray water. Now that cesspools are banned, if you want a composting toilet you'd have to add a septic system anyway. Most people who have composting toilets are living in an unpermitted situation.

Thanks for the info. So, no greywater recycling? Which basically means the shower and sink water dumps into a perforated pipe that is underground and distributes the water to specific areas, (usually trees or bushes) that would use the water.

That should eliminate the need for a full sized septic tank... and doesn't require a cesspool.

This would be a State thing since wastewater is a State Department of Health matter.

There have been some larger greywater systems at some of the hotels and golf courses which have used grey water, but I don't know of any residential systems.

Septic systems are sized according to how many bedrooms are in the house as well as the size of the lot. Amount of plumbing fixtures - surprisingly - don't seem to have anything to do with it.

hotzcatz answered that in the last post. It is determined by the amount of bedrooms. 5 is the normal maximum. I live on a lot with a 5 bedroom vacation rental and a 3 bedroom residence. It has two waste disposal systems.

You can use a composting toilet but you must require a cesspool for passing the grey-water it better to ask for county's permission.
But if the cesspool are banned and you have to get your composting toilet getting connected to the septic tank wont be a good Idea.First the concept of composting toilet will be rubbish of composting the feces which will get flushed directly to the septic tank and second the cost of connecting your composting toilet to the septic tank will cost you more dollars.

If you are looking which composting toilet to buy I would suggest you to go for Nature's Head Dry Composting toilet I have read good reviews from the customers and after reading this source also https://topreviewedten.com/best-composting-toilet/

We I don’t have a composting toilet but when we bought the house, the previous owner had the laundry water draining into a separate tank that they used to water the plants. However the shower and toilets and kitchen sink drain into the cesspool

I can see how that would be useful in Ocean View. I wonder if they used a plant-friendly detergent?
