I was wondering what kinds of premiums are "normal" for Big Island homeowners. I got a quote from State Farm - 2% deductible $112.75 and 5% deductible for $922.00. This is for 100% replacement cost w/ hurricane and fire.

My house is an older home, not in tsunami, flood, or lava zones.
3 bedroom, 1.5 bath, iron corrugated roof, vinyl siding, and carpet.

I'm just not sure if their quote is on the higher end or not.

Any input would be welcome.

"My house is an older home, not in tsunami, flood, or lava zones."

Not sure what you mean because every inch of the island is in one of the 9 USGS Lava Zones, but we pay about $420/year for a modest newer home in Puna (LZ 3) including hurricane insurance.

Well that's true...all houses are on the slopes of some kind of volcano here, huh?

I guess I was thinking about Pahoa Village Rd...being in the direct path of a current lava flow, but that doesn't really matter. Thanks for the reply.

$420.yr including hurricane insurance is a great rate. Can you share the name of the insurance carrier?

Our insurance company is Dongbu. When we looked a few years ago Liberty was only slightly more expensive, they were the two cheapest insurance companies. Our previous insurance company, USAA, was over twice as expensive. I'll paste below the Hilo Dongbu insurance agent info:

Joe Marsh
Agent
Business Insurance Services, Inc.
1080 Kilauea Ave
Hilo, Hi, 96720
Office 808-935-1888
Direct 808-935-1865
Fax 808-443-2468
www.bisihi.com

Clarified to add: despite the name Business Insurance Services, this is for a residential property.

We also use Dongbu. Around $450 for a 2014 completed cottage IIRC.

Need to add that our Dongbu homeowners insurance supposedly provides liability coverage on out two vacant lots at no extra charge.
