So I need to go to the DMV today. I’ve got to get some vehicles registered so was just curious whether it’s easier to go to the Hilo DMV or the Kona DMV

The Pahoa DMV has the shortest wait times.

Whichever location is closest would probably be your best bet. Longest wait I've had in Hilo is probably between 10-15 minutes. Of course, it seems like a lot more.

When we go to either Hilo or Kona (and we are right down the street from you), we make it a full day of errands. So whether choosing Hilo or Kona would depend on what other shopping you need to do. If Costco, then Kona. If Lowe's, then Kona. Otherwise, I think the actual drive to Hilo is easier and would choose going there. I think the wait times in both places are about the same.

I've been told that the Waimea DMV is almost always the quickest option in this area. If you do go to the Kailu-Kona DMV, plan to get there abpout an hour before opening if you want to get in and out relatively quickly. Even that early there will be a line forming. I bring a camp chair and a book to make it a bit more comfortable. Always best to avoid going the months' first and last weeks as it is busier.

After dealing with Hawai'i DMV, I will never complain about California DMV again. You may hear horror stories about going to the DMV here, I have some of my own. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. We went to Pahoa and waited about 30 min right at lunch time
