Ha! Italian is easy! "buongiorno, cappuccino per favore" What else would be necessary? Hmm, croissants, I suppose. And pasta carbonara. Yumm. In general, food in the United States sucks. Hawaii is a bit better than some of the other states, but nothing like Europe. I think it's vacation time again! Just wishing, though.

You know what job on the Big Island pays better than the state? Real estate agent!! :-) Just sayin'. Mahalo, Harry

P.S. I've been on the Big Island for 40 years now. There's no place in the world that has better weather than Kona. Certainly not Florida? Can you swear on this forum? How about Free Wheelin' Franklin's favorite word: Sheeeit! Florida? Contaminated ground water. Unbearable humidity. Politically? Don't get me started.

How about New Zealand? I think it has most of the things on Lifeisruff's wish list. Looking it over now....Yep, New Zealand is the place for you!!

More sheep than people in NZ and their immigration requirements are tough, but maybe Ruff will like it? We may go visit OZ & NZ next spring, it depends on how the current house restoration goes.

I dunno, it's pretty hot in Kona, if Costco (& lately Lowe's) weren't over there we'd not go there very often. Used to like the swimming pool there, but it's been closed since late last winter. Better weather in Hamakua, especially around Honokaa. Much deeper and better soil for gardens, too. We do need some better beaches, though. But, if we had nice beaches, we'd not be able to afford to live here.

Was affordability on Ruff's list of requirement for the location of his next adventure? Guess I could go look.

Low cost of living was the first thing on the list.

Oh, ooops! I don't think NZ or OZ is low cost of living. India, maybe? That should be low cost?

India?? Give me a break. Here is a link to a New Zealand government website.

https://movetonewzealand.net/cost-of...n-new-zealand/

This site has the cost of housing in various cities & town, cost of various foods, etc., and describes the country. It has beaches like Hawaii, Mountains like Switzerland, big cities and small farming towns, nice people; basically everything on the list.

Mahalo, Harry

an zee problem izz whatz? (Ha! Is that typing with a French accent, now?) Maybe the OP could investigate France? Good food there, too!

Hey, I've had that online handle since the stone age of the internet. Back when online time was measured in hours and minutes per month. Blazing fast 28.8Kbps internet speed, we needed all the 'zzzs' we could get since there was time for a nap when downloading something.

Hmm, that handle pre-dates City-Data. Things sure do change fast in a digital age, don't they?

Well, now with the internet and City-Data, our OP can find out a whole bunch more (from random strangers at that) about places before going there, that's a good thing.

Hotzcatz is one of our must valuable posters. Very knowledgeable, especially about the building trades, and almost always gives very fair and detailed responses. He/she lives on the Big Island and is very trustworthy. Probably knows more about the Big Island than anyone else posting here (except maybe Harry P).
