I just became a parent of two Peach-faced lovebirds.
It's not my first rodeo with lovebirds I've had quite a few but it's been almost 22 years since I've hand fed and weaned babies.
The man who I got them from says they are about 12 weeks old, 13 now because I got them last week.
One of them seems to be pretty darn big for his age @ 57 grams as of last night, the other is 47 grams.
I know to start with soft foods, like soaked pellets and millet when they start to refuse the formula.
I want to try to get them on a more natural diet of fresh fruits and vegetables, bird mash with some seed and the millet thrown in as an occasional treat.
I never did this with my other lovebirds, mostly because I didn't have the knowledge so they basically lived on seed.
They all lived very full lives and were healthy. My last bird was about 20 years old when he passed on.
When should I start to introduce the fresh food? Right away or should I wait a little and get them eating the soft seed first? I just don't want them getting used to strictly seed and pellets and refusing the fresh..

I encourage you to introduce fresh food as early as possible. I introduced my baby Senegal to fresh food while he was still on 2 hand-feedings per day and he quickly transitioned to feed himself.
