Hi all,

Looking at law school in Tuscaloosa. Great program and whatnot, but I've never been to Alabama, and want some insight. How are things currently for African-Americans? I'm aware of the history, but don't want to pass up a good program based on history. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks!

Tuscaloosa is a nice little city, but it is fairly boring. The city is 45%-50% black nowadays. I can't comment on UA (as I assume that's where you are attending school).

If Tuscaloosa gets boring, Birmingham is just forty minutes up 20/59. Black people get along fine in Alabama, especially upper middle class. I never went to UA but had friends that did and that liked it just fine. Racism is everywhere and this state is no different but people who have strong morals, are Christian and carry themselves in a polite and respectful way don't get hassled.
