I just drove past it and noticed that all the entrances were boarded up. Not a whiff on that crackerjack newspaper The Birmingham News or the BBJ. Anybody know the skinny?

That's no bueno. If true. I'll see if my buddy LCT-YMCA Shaddrach Katapolis can swing by there in a bit to confirm. He's supposed to set up for a show there for our favorite band, Already Been Chewed.

Sorry, I couldn't help it. It started out like one of those posts on another forum. That place is like a cornerstone to downtown. Hopefully it is temporary.

Well, it is a nice building and has been well redone in recent years. The need for business travelers in the financial district has dried up a lot since losing our last two banks. A little to far for the BJCC. (did the Westin help kill it)

Not the best part of DT for condos/apts, so if not re-opening I sure hope someone has some good inspiration.

It was functioning normally a week ago when I happened by..........

This is sad.... Above had potential to become a great hangout spot with a little better "design inspiration." The design and furnishings were more like a college bar... Not quite the image I have of a rooftop bar. Hoping someone will come in and do something spectacular with that and the hotel.

Overall, this is a disappointment but I think it's just a part of our growth and will iron itself out. Hopefully UAB doesn't get their hands on it. ;-)

just google about the hotel and seem like they are talking advantage of the historic tax credit and doing a 6 million dollar renonavation and afterward are going to operate as a historic luxury hotel. so i think they are just temperorily closed due to them remodeling it. i don't think its a permanment closure

Link? Because I couldn't find a thing.

Wait. Check that. I just looked on their Wikipedia entry. And there it is. So it's a positive thing, then.

That's a relief. You'd think they'd note it on their website or have an answering message saying as such.
