It's just a shame that its almost like starting over from scratch, and not playing this coming season. Honestly, one would have thought that they would have tested the waters before making any decision back last year when they did. What a blunder.

Well, it wasn't an honest mistake. It wasn't honest, nor a mistake or blunder. If they were honest, they could've asked for help before killing it and the boosters could've raised the money. They were not expecting the huge amount of blow back from the community which probably caused an even larger effort of fund raising. Plus a bigger spotlight on the program which forced their hand to bring it back lest it shed light on the fact that the BOT just wants to sabotage UAB and keep it from being the largest most well funded school in the state. (Which it is not the largest, but is growing)

So even though they'll suffer a couple of bad years it is probably a good trade off considering the amount of awareness, funding and enthusiasm brought about by this whole scandal.

A great economic ripple effect. If football hadn't come back, UAB would've been kicked out of Conference USA, and this wouldn't have happened...

Conference USA tournament is coming back to Bham - Birmingham Business Journal

Quote:
The league announced Friday that the 2016 edition of the tournaments will be played in the Magic City. Games will be played at both the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Bartow Arena and the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex from March 8-12.

Birmingham also hosted the 2015 edition of the event, which marked the first time since 1999 that it had hosted one of the league's basketball tournaments. UAB won the men's tournament, which drew thousands of fans.

Birmingham was also tapped by the league to host its indoor track and field championships.

UAB needs, World Games needs, mounting pressure for convention space, a slow-handed but willing mayor, prospects of hosting large-scale sporting events (CUSA related, football bowl / exhibition games) . . .

Nothing definitive, but a storm is brewing in our favor. Give-a-damn for a dome is spiking, and all of the cosmic ingredients may just be in place to realize something before the turn of the decade. Some other source of advocacy needs to present itself . . . some report that lays out the damned-if-we-dont numbers, UAB admins, private business execs, other civic leaders. If two or three more key drivers decide to take up cause and lobby for the structure, then I'm telling yall, this thing could get done.

This was an important step to show that real support is there...

UAB football coach Bill Clark signs new five-year contract | AL.com

Bill Clark has signed a new five-year contract to remain as UAB's head football coach, sources close to the negotiations told AL.com Tuesday afternoon and the university confirmed.

The contract officially began June 1, the sources said, which means Clark is signed through the 2019 season, and the five years are guaranteed. Clark's salary will be between $600,000-$700,000 a year and will include the opportunity to earn incentive bonuses.
