Yeah, we just got a 65 thousand resident boost because, Walker County was added to what was already by far the largest metro in Alabama! More to come! Stay tuned!

When did that happen? Historically they were part of the metro, but I remember a few years ago they got separated. Good news if they're back.

They were unlatched from the MSA for a moment... maybe even had their own micropolitan area for a bit? Can't remember, but were still in the CSA. Either way they are part of the MSA again after the new definitions came out.

FYI. Birmingham metro is now larger than New Orleans. A large population county was removed from their metro, dropping it to right around 1M.

Yeah, I saw that. That's a big blow to them to drop below 1M after being there for so long. Birmingham appears to be set up for future metro gains. Maybe Gadsden and Anniston can be roped in the next time around and perhaps more industry growing on the west at McCalla will bring Tuscaloosa into the CSA.

It happened last Friday when new delineations based on the 2020 census were released. The report was supposed to be released in June.

National Association of Black Journalists Hosts annual convention in the magic city, massive economic impact expected

https://www.wbrc.com/2023/08/01/nati...pact-expected/

“Our members are flocking to Birmingham. We are going to be all over this city,” Tucker added.

The convention marked the first time NABJ hosted the event in the Magic City. The organization sold out nine hotels in Birmingham, making it the third most attended convention for NABJ.

I would venture to say 70% of the attendee have never been to Birmingham. It starts this Wednesday thru Sunday.
