Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

case44

Something To Chew On? Dealing With A Closed Dentist's Office

Not only am I writing to you right now, I am also writhing. That's because I've had a nagging pain below the lower bridge in my mouth since the weekend. It also happens to be in a spot where I had gotten a root canal some two or three years ago (and was actually written about here). Let's just hope that I don't have to miss any work if worse came to worse.

This writer has done it all. I've done the saltwater rinse. I've done the Anbesol. I've eaten aspirin as if it...

Hey, everyone! Guess what it's time for again? That's right. Ol' Case is back in his perch to do some more Scattershooting with the masses, right here with you on City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive. Gather up some marshmallows and the coat hanger of your choice, and let's circle the wagons around the computer campfire. Much to talk about here with little time to waste.

That Wonderful Everly Brothers Harmony

Posted 10-17-2015 at 07:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Something like this would likely rank among songs that people can't get out of their heads. We have such a thread hidden somewhere in the Music forums, but that's not important now. It probably wouldn't matter what song it is, but this writer cannot get the music of a famous duo out of his head.

And that can be a good thing.

I'm sure you all remember The Everly Brothers. Sure you do. Phil and Don and those great harmonies they used to employ on every...

Daylight Savings Is Over In Two Weeks

Posted 10-16-2015 at 09:29 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Many of you are probably wondering, "Why the devil are you writing about the time change now?" It's because I'm looking forward to March, when we spring forward.

Unfortunately, for the time being, we'll have to fall back, with the only good thing being an extra hour of sleep. We'll be changing our clocks and watches back one hour and go back to Standard Time at 2 a.m. on November 1 for most portions of the United States. Let's face it, ...

Could Four Frisco Football Teams Make The Playoffs This Year?

Posted 10-12-2015 at 10:18 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

If this week's standings are any indication, then it becomes a big possibility with four Thursdays and Fridays to go in the regular season. I don't believe the Frisco (Texas) Independent School District has ever seen as many as four of its high school football programs make the playoffs in the same school year (out of nine schools in District 9-5A). At least, I don't recall it happening ever since they've had, oh, five high schools.

It very well could change this fall,...
